Interview with a b'baller

Interviewing this 15 year old teen was rather hilarious, my brother so kindly took his attention away from his youtube video to give me 10 minutes of his time; so i proceeded to ask him questions about basketball.

I personally don't know much about the basketball jargon and thankfully Samuel-Roy did'nt bother to spiel on about dribbling or dunking.

Here is his honest and innocent opinion about the sport and the basketball scene in Singapore.

Q1 :Why basketball? Out of the various sports CCA's, what made you choose this?
S-R: Er.. it's more open to the public...basketball is accessible to the public. There are basketball courts nearby almost every HDB flat, compared to rugby or hockey. My friends also play with me. I don't think know how to play rugby.

Q2 :Basketball or Football (soccer)? With the context of Singapore.
S-R: For me personally, Basketball. But if you're talking about Singapore i say soccer, because of the size of Singaporean's...

Q3 : What do you mean 'size' of Singaporean's?
S-R: They are short, on an average national scale...soccer is more for them...
(i think when he say's 'them' he is referring to male teens who are short...)

I'm laughing and moving on to the next question... Sam just stares blankly ahead...

Q4 : So... you're a forward? Explain what's the role.
S-R:A big agile person that is an all rounded player, with various roles on the defence and offence.

Q5 : What do you think of the Sinagpore Slingers?
S-R:They are average in the ABL. ( Asian Basketball League) I think they should use more Singaporean players, and use their talent instead of foreigners.

Q6 : Will you still play when your 30 years old.
S-R: Yeah...
(he gives me this 'duh' look right then...)

At this point I tell him my opinion of the sport... maybe it's just this male driven sport, that garners all this egotistical feeling, of scoring and then slapping one another on the butt... and grunting, all sweaty and hot-headed...

S-R: Ai yah..it's just the feeling of playing.
He says this with a knowing looking. Shaking his head every so slightly, as if i would know nothing of what he just told me.

That's true.
I don't play as frequently as he does.

Last question: One on one match or team game?
S-R: Team game. (without a doubt). You can do more things... like passing and its a team effort.
